Welcome to TrainTherapy.net

When my family—my spouse, my son, and I—moved to the Bay Area, little did I know that my passion for trains and model railroading would become more than a hobby.

After we moved here, we visited many of the wonderful places the Bay Area has to offer families. Some of them were model railroad exhibits, and there were so many of them! We loved visiting them, and we tried to see as many open houses as we could.

We already had a large collection of Thomas the Tank Engine wooden trains, which we bought secondhand shortly after moving here. It was a lot of fun building layouts and playing with them together. But when we introduced my son to battery-powered locomotives and saw how much he enjoyed watching them run, I knew I had to get a model train starter set.

For his fourth birthday, in the summer of 2026, we bought him a Bachmann HO scale starter set. We opened it a few months earlier, and that was when our journey into model railroading really began.

Since then, trains have become more than something we play with. They have become a way to explore places, history, engineering, creativity, and perhaps even ourselves.

I hope this website will bring useful and interesting information about real and model trains. I will document our journey as we build our model railroad, travel by train, explore railroad history, and discover the many stories that trains have to tell.

Welcome aboard.
